Welcome! I am excited to be adding a new page to The Changing of
Seasons, dedicated to children! Many who visit this site are Moms,
Grandparents, Aunts and others who have little ones in their life and I
thought this page could help in giving ideas with spending fun, quality time
with them! Because this is a new idea for me and a work in progress, the
format may seem a little odd but I'll try and work out the kinks once I see
what works and hopefully get some feedback from you! I will be changing and
adding things once in awhile so be sure to check back!
I would also like to maybe add an extra page to this of Parents giving advice,
giving children's book suggestions, favorite toy ideas, etc. . . If this
interests you, please email me at thechangingofseasons@yahoo.com and put
CHILDREN'S PAGE in the subject so I know it's not spam. I have already
received feedback from a few of you and would love to hear from more! A
BIG thank you to those who have contributed so far and have sent words of
encouragement! Really means a lot!
Please enjoy the FIFTH edition of Kids Page and hope to hear from you
soon!
Children are so very precious and remember, they ARE our future!

Let's Read a Book!
This
months featured book, or should I say books, are a series about a little
amphibian
named, Froggy, written by Jonathan London and illustrated by Frank Remkiewicz.
Froggy is a
fun character that goes through some of the same experiences most of us do as a
child.
Froggy Goes to the Doctor gives examples of what your child may experience at
the Doctor's office, like having their temperature taken and their ears and eyes
examined, but of course Froggy doesn't have his ears examined, he doesn't have
any!
With it being summer, another fun Froggy story is Froggy Learns to Swim. Froggy
is afraid to get in the water and swim, even though he is a frog and swimming
comes naturally. Will he learn to swim and enjoy the water? You'll find a
collection of Froggy books at your local book store and library. Check out this
link below and find out more about the Author!

Here's a cool recipe that kids will love to make!
Rocket Pops
You will need:
* Red juice (strawberry, cherry, raspberry, cranberry)
* Blue or purple juice (blue Kool-Aid, grape, blue raspberry)
* White or yellow juice (lemonade, grape, peach)
* 3 oz. paper cups
* Popsicle Sticks
Set your paper cups onto a cookie sheet. Fill the cup 1/3 full with red. Put in
freezer for
2-3 hours until half frozen, like slush. Remove from the freezer and put a
Popsicle stick
into the center of each cup of juice. Now fill up the cup another 1/3 with the
white or
yellow juice. Repeat the steps for freezing until half frozen.
Remove from freezer. Finish filling with the blue or purple juice. Put into
freezer until
frozen solid. After they are totally frozen put in plastic freezer bags until
you eat them
with a friend. Peel of the paper cups before you eat them.

Craft Time!

Here's a great way for kids to remember their summer
vacation at the beach!
Gather rocks, empty shells and sea glass in a variety of sizes, shapes and
colors. Fill a
canning jar with a layer of sand and wedge in larger rocks or driftwood, then
add the
smaller shells. Fill the jar with seawater, screw the lid on tightly, and wrap
in a towel to
prevent breakage on the ride home.
Stand the jar in a kettle and cover it with water. Heat until the water boils,
then simmer
for 15 minutes (the cooking kills any algae). Carefully remove the jar from the
kettle
(parents only) and cool. Let your child label the jar and decorate the lid with
sand
sprinkled over glue.

There are many other craft ideas where sea shells are
involved. Another fun idea is simple
and very young children can also make their own. Just take a large sea shell,
preferably
white and chalky, clean and let it dry out in the sun. Then, with acrylic paint
or
watercolor, have them paint a beautiful picture, or they may just want to paint
their own
design. Other fun ideas, use wiggly eyes, fabric, buttons, you name it, and turn
your sea
shell into a funny little character!
